This CCDS representation uses a downstream start codon but includes a potential upstream start codon that would result in a protein that is 18 aa longer at the N-terminus. However, the upstream start codon has a weak Kozak signal, the vast majority of transcripts from human and homologous species start downstream of it, and data in PMID:19413330 indicate that the N-terminus begins at an N-alpha acetylated Ala-2 residue (nASIMEGPLSK...) following cleavage of the initiating Met-1 derived from the second start codon. The second start codon is therefore represented in this CCDS. |
