Protein Classification

YokU family protein; type II toxin-antitoxin system MqsA family antitoxin( domain architecture ID 10023951)

YokU family protein similar to Bacillus subtilis uncharacterized protein YokU that bears some similarity to antitoxin MqsA and may be an antitoxin; type II toxin-antitoxin system MqsA family antitoxin similar to Escherichia coli MqsA, the antitoxin component of the MqsR/MqsA TA system that is involved in the regulation of motility by quorum sensing signal autoinducer-2 (AI-2); binds to the MqsR mRNA interferase toxin and neutralizes its endoribonuclease activity

YgiT-type zinc finger domain; This domain model describes a small domain with two copies of a putative zinc-binding motif CXXC (usually CXXCG). Most member proteins consist largely of this domain or else carry an additional C-terminal helix-turn-helix domain, resembling that of the phage protein Cro and modeled by pfam01381.

6-65 1.00e-05

antitoxin MqsA for MqsR toxin; This family includes domains similar to the antitoxin MqsA that binds motility quorum-sensing regulator MqsR, a toxin that is highly upregulated in persisters (dormant cells found in biofilms that are a source of antibiotic resistance), thus forming a unique toxin:antitoxin (TA) pair. MqsA neutralizes MsqR toxicity. It binds its own promoter as well as those of genes important for E. coli physiology, such as mcbR and spy. It also binds zinc and has been shown to coordinate DNA via its C-terminal domain. This family also includes the B. subtilis YokU protein, which is functionally uncharacterized.
