Asiloid flies are known to science from some 8,100 species today and form a diverse clade within Diptera - true flies. The mtCOI sequences within this BioProject were generated from specimens at the NMNH, Washington, DC, USA and represent primarily the families Apioceridae (“apiocerid flies”), Asilidae (“assassin flies” or “robber flies”), and Mydidae (“mydas flies”). The sequenced specimens stem primarily from the extensive field work conducted by Dr. Torsten Dikow, as well as from collaborations with dipterists world-wide. This NCBI BioProject contains DNA barcode records that were generated with support from the federally-funded Smithsonian Institution DNA Barcode Network.
