Figure E is a simplified model of what would happen if the same cohort of 1,000 women underwent various types of breast biopsy--open biopsy, stereotactically guided vacuum-assisted biopsy, stereotactically guided automated gun biopsy, US guided automated gun biopsy, US guided vacuum-assisted biopsy, and freehand automated gun biopsy. Each diagram demonstrates how many women would be expected to have adverse events related to the biopsy, and how many women would be expected to experience a delayed diagnosis of cancer due to a false-negative biopsy result.
