Effects of rosiglitazone on human omental adipose tissue gene expression

(Submitter supplied) The cellular mechanisms by which PPARγ improves metabolism in mature human adipocytes and potential depot differences in its actions are poorly understood. To assess the global effects of PPARγ activation on human omental gene expression, we conducted microarray analysis of control vs. rosiglitazone-treated omental tissues from human subjects.

AginAging: a portrait from gene expression profile in blood cells: a portrait from gene expression profile in blood cells.

(Submitter supplied) In almost every countries the proportion of people over 60 years is growing faster that any other age group. Increased life expectancy is leading to the characterization of specific aspects of aging for the various physiological systems. The study of healthy aging is important to design strategies capable to maximize the health and to prevent chronic diseases in older people. Immunosenscence reflects the age-related changes of the immune system and the reduced capacity of elderly people to cope with new infections. more...

Sex-related changes in gene expression patterns of adults exposed to arsenic contaminated drinking water

(Submitter supplied) Arsenic contamination of drinking water occurs globally and is associated with numerous diseases including skin, lung, and bladder cancers, and cardiovascular disease. The mechanisms behind arsenic's effects remain unclear, but recent research indicates that aresnic acts along sex-specific lines and may be an endocrine disruptor. The objective of this study was to evaluate the nature of gene expression chagnes among males and females exposed to arsenic contaminated water in Bangladesh at high and low dose exposures. The median wAs concentration for the low exposure group was 103 µg/L for males and 117 µg/L for females (range 50–200 µg/L). more...

Time course gene expression profiling of five diffuse large B-cell lymphoma cell lines following JQ1 treatment

(Submitter supplied) To understand the molecular curcuits perturbed by BET bromodoman inhibtion we obtained gene expression profiling of five DLBCL cell lines, SU-DHL6, OCI-Ly1, OCI-Ly4, Toledo and HBL-1, which were treated with either 500nM JQ1 or DMSO for 0,2,6,12,24 and 48hr.

Small nucleolar RNAs and small Cajal body-specific RNAs show distinct transcriptional profiles in the context of the molecular heterogeneity of multiple myeloma.

(Submitter supplied) Small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) and small Cajal body-specific RNAs (scaRNAs) are non-coding RNAs involved in the maturation of other RNA molecules and generally located in the introns of host genes. It is now emerging that altered sno/scaRNAs expression may play a pathological role in cancer. This study elucidates the patterns of sno/scaRNAs expression in multiple myeloma (MM), by profiling puri?ed malignant plasma cells from 55 MMs, 8 secondary plasma cell leukemias (sPCL) and 4 normal controls. more...

Sodium metavanadate exhibits carcinogenic tendencies in vitro in immortalized human bronchial epithelial cells [DEG.ABC]

(Submitter supplied) Pentavalent vanadium compounds induce intracellular changes in vitro that are consistent with those of other carcinogenic substances, including alteration of transcription factor levels, promotion of oxidative stress, inflammation, DNA damage, stimulation of mitogenic signals, and suppression of apoptosis. While there is no clear evidence that vanadium compounds cause cancer in humans, vanadium pentoxide causes lung cancer in rodents after long-term inhalation exposures and in turn IARC has categorized it as a group 2B possible human carcinogen. more...
