Gene expression in C57BL/6 mouse lungs after exposure to aerosolized NTHi lysate

(Submitter supplied) Pneumonia is a serious problem worldwide. We recently demonstrated that innate defense mechanisms of the lung are highly inducible against pneumococcal pneumonia. To determine the breadth of protection conferred by stimulation of lung mucosal innate immunity, and to identify cells and signaling pathways activated by this treatment, mice were treated with an aerosolized bacterial lysate, then challenged with lethal doses of bacterial and fungal pathogens. more...

Lung response to aerosolized non-typeable Haemophilus influenza lysate: time course

Analysis of lungs exposed to aerosolized non-typeable Haemophilus influenza (NTHi) lysate for 2 or 4 hours. Aerosolized NTHi treatment induces lung inflammation but protects against fatal bacterial pneumonia in animal models. Results provide insight into molecular basis of NTHi's protective effect.
