Mechanically stimulated fibroblast from different fetal mouse tissues using Affy MOE430 chip set

(Submitter supplied) In order to test the hypothesis that fibroblasts from different tissues are phenotypically distinct from one another, we have subjected tendon, skin and corneal fibroblasts of fetal mouse to mechanical stimulation by fluid flow and analyzed the transcriptional responses of the cells using Affymetrix MOE430 chip set containing two arrays MOE430A and MOE430B. Vitamin C-induced gene expression profiling in GM5659 human skin fibroblasts

(Submitter supplied) The skin is a protective barrier against external insults and any lesion must be rapidly and efficiently repaired. Dermal fibroblasts are the major source of extracellular connective tissue matrix and play an important role in wound healing. Vitamin C is an important water-soluble free radical scavenger and an essential cofactor for collagen synthesis by dermal fibroblasts and, consequently, may contribute to the maintenance of healthy skin. more...

Cardiac cells after mechanical stress, ionising radiation or UV

(Submitter supplied) Rationale: During excessive pressure or overload, cardiac cells are subjected to increased mechanical stress. We investigate how the stress response of cardiac cells to mechanical stress can be compared to genotoxic stresses induced by DNA damaging agents. Methods: Cultures enriched for cardiomyocytes and cultures of fibroblasts were derived from ventricles of neonatal rat hearts. In three independent experiments, both cell cultures were subjected to mechanical stress (cyclic stretch at 60 cycles/min), UV irradiation (10 J/m2), or X-rays (8.5 Gy). more...

Comparative gene expression in the limbus of the vervet monkey

(Submitter supplied) The limbus is a unique anatomic structure that is highly innervated and vascularized yet sets the boundary for the avascularized cornea. The corneal epithelial stem cells are believed to reside at the limbus. The intrinsic and external molecular signals that modulate the differentiation and proliferation of the limbal stems cells are still largely unidentified because of a lack of known specific markers. more...

Differential gene expression patterns of the developing and adult mouse cornea compared to the lens and tendon

(Submitter supplied) The cornea continues to mature after birth to develop a fully functional, refractive and protective barrier tissue. Here we investigated the complex biological events underlying this process by profiling global genome-wide gene expression patterns of the immature postnatal day 10 and seven week-old adult mouse cornea. The lens and tendon were included in the study to increase the specificity of genes identified as up regulated in the corneal samples. more...
