gene expression study of blood monocytes

(Submitter supplied) Monocytes were isolated from 30 ml of whole blood from each of 19 women, 10 with high BMD and 9 with low BMD, using monocyte negative isolation kit from Dynal Biotech Inc. Total RNA was extracted from monocytes using Qiagen RNeasy Mini Kit. Targets were produced for each subject using standard Affymetrix procedures from about 4ug of total RNA. Hybridization was made for each subject. Comparison was performed between 10 high BMD and 9 low BMD subjects. more...

Bone mineral density and circulating monocytes

Comparison of circulating monocytes from pre- and postmenopausal females with low or high bone mineral density (BMD). Circulating monocytes are progenitors of osteoclasts, and produce factors important to bone metabolism. Results provide insight into the role of monocytes in osteoporosis.

Genome Wide Gene Expression Study of Circulating Monocytes in human with extremely high vs. low bone mass

(Submitter supplied) Peak bone mass (PBM) is an important determinant of osteoporosis. Circulating monocytes may serve as early progenitors of osteoclasts and produce important molecules for bone metabolism. To search for genes functionally important for osteoclastogenesis, we performed a whole genome gene differential expression study of circulating monocytes in human subjects with extremely low vs. high peak bone mass. more...

Gene Expression of Circulating B Lymphocytes for Osteoporosis

(Submitter supplied) B cells produce important cytokines regulate bone metabolism. We comparison gene expression patterns of circulating B cells in blood from 20 postmenopausal females with low or high bone mineral density (BMD): 10 low BMD vs. 10 high BMD. In total 29 differentially expressed genes were identified including some novel genes to be relevant to bone metabolism. These results provide insight into the role of B cells in pathologic osteoporosis. more...

Gene expression analysis of bone biospies from nine patients with endogenous Cushings syndrome before and after treatment

(Submitter supplied) Glucose intolerance and diabetes mellitus are classical parts of endogenous Cushing’s syndrome (CS), and insulin resistance is a feature of cortisol excess. CS patients display characteristics including hyperglycemia, abdominal obesity, reduced high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and elevated triglycerides, and arterial hypertension. Hypercortisolism is a well known cause of bone loss, and patients with CS frequently display low bone mass and fragility fractures. more...

Endogenous Cushing's Syndrome bone biopsies: pre- and post-surgery

Analysis of bone biopsies from Cushing’s syndrome (CS) patients, before and mean 3 months after surgical treatment. Excess GC-induced bone loss is a serious complication in patients with endogenous CS. Results provide insight molecular mechanisms by which excess GCs influence bone metabolism.

Gene expression study of blood monocytes in pre- and postmenopausal females with low or high bone mineral density (HuEx-1_0-st-v2)

(Submitter supplied) Comparison of circulating monocytes from pre- and postmenopausal females with low or high bone mineral density (BMD). Circulating monocytes are progenitors of osteoclasts, and produce factors important to bone metabolism. Results provide insight into the role of monocytes in osteoporosis.
