Chito-oligomer effect on seedlings

Analysis of 14-day-old Columbia-0 seedlings treated with hydrolyzed crab-shell chitin or chito-octamer. Chitin is a major component of fungal walls and insect exoskeletons. Results provide insight into the signaling pathways involved in activating defense genes in response to chito-oligomers.

The Arabidopsis thaliana map65-3 and ugt76b1 mutant transcriptomes upon the compatible interaction with Hyaloperonospora arabidopsidis

(Submitter supplied) We used Arabidopsis full-genome microarrays to characterize plant transcript accumulations in map65-3 and ugt76b1 mutants, 3 days after water treatment and inoculation with the biotrophic oomycete downy mildew pathogen, Hyaloperonospora arabidopsidis (Hpa)

Analysis of the molecular dialogue between gray mold (Botrytis cinerea) and grapevine (Vitis vinifera) reveals a clear shift in defense mechanisms during berry ripening

(Submitter supplied) Mature grapevine berries at the harvesting stage (MB) are very susceptible to the gray mold fungus Botrytis cinerea while veraison berries (VB) are not. We conducted simultaneous microscopic and transcriptomic analyses of the pathogen and the host to investigate the infectious process developed by B. cinerea on MB versus VB, and the plant defense mechanisms deployed to stop the fungus development. On the pathogen side, our genome-wide transcriptomic data revealed that B. more...

Host and non-host pathogens elicit different jasmonate/ethylene responses in Arabidopsis

(Submitter supplied) Arabidopsis does not support the growth and asexual reproduction of the barley pathogen, Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei Bgh). A majority of germlings fail to penetrate the epidermal cell wall and papillae. To gain additional insight into this interaction, we determined whether the salicylic acid (SA) or jasmonate (JA)/ethylene (ET) defence pathways played a role in blocking barley powdery mildew infections. more...

Expression data from Arabidopsis 14-day-old seedlings

(Submitter supplied) Chitin, a polymer of N-acetyl-glucosamne, is a component of the cell walls of many plant fungal pathogens. During the infection process, the released chitin fragments (such as chitooctaose) from fungal cell walls by plant enzymes can trigger plant defense response and gene activation. The current work studies the regulation of Arabidopsis genes by the purified chitin fragment chitooctaose. We used the Affymetric Arabidopsis whole gene arrays to study the gene expression caused by chitin (chitooctaose). more...

Chitin oligomer chitooctaose effect on seedlings

Analysis of 14-day-old Col-0 seedlings treated with 1 uM chitooctaose for 3 minutes. Chitooctaose, a chitin oligomer, is released by plant enzymes from the cell wall of many plant fungal pathogens. Results provide insight into the plant defense response to fungal elicitors.

pmr4 vs. wild-type (May, 2003)

(Submitter supplied) There were two genotypes: (1) Columbia-0, wild-type (C) (2) pmr4-1 mutant (P), callose synthase deficient mutant (Vogel and Somerville (2000) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci., USA 97: 1897). There were two treatments: (1) uninoculated (U) (2) 3 days after inoculation with the powdery mildew pathogen, Erysiphe cichoracearum, race UCSC (I). There were four biological replicates, labeled 1, 2, 3 or 4. Examples of the sample labels are: CU1 = Columbia-0, uninoculated, replicate 1 CI2 = Columbia-0, 3 days after inoculation with powdery mildew, replicate 2 PU3 = pmr4-1, uninoculated, replicate 3 PI4 = pmr4-1, 3 days after inoculation with powdery mildew, replicate 4. more...

Plant response to chitin 4mer

(Submitter supplied) Analysis of 14-day-old Columbia-0 seedlings treated with chito-tetramer.Results provide insight into the signaling pathways involved in plant devlopment in response to the four-mer. Chitin is the second biopolymer most abundant at nature, after cellulose, forming part of insect exosqueletons, crustacean shells, krill and fungal spores where is present as a high molecular weight molecule. Previously we showed that Arabidopsis defense related clusters of genes were induced by high molecular weight chitin (CHH) or 8mer oligosaccharides similarly (Ramonell et al., 2005), some of those genes were essential for effective defense against phytopathogenic fungus (Berrocal-Lobo et al., 2010). more...
