Transcriptome changes of Arabidopsis during pathogen and insect attack

(Submitter supplied) Plant defenses against pathogens and insects are regulated differentially by cross-communicating signaling pathways in which salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA) and ethylene (ET) play key roles. To understand how plants integrate pathogen- and insect-induced signals into specific defense responses, we monitored the dynamics of SA, JA, and ET signaling in Arabidopsis after attack by a set of microbial pathogens and herbivorous insects with different modes of attack. more...

Tolerance of Arabidopsis to thrip feeding

(Submitter supplied) We analyzed the interaction between Arabidopsis and western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis), which are one of the most serious insect pests of cultivated plants. A total of 1.2K potential biotic and abiotic stress-related genes were selected from the genes covered by the Arabidopsis 7K array (RIKEN, Japan) and Arabidopsis oligo microarray (Agilent Technologies, USA) for this study. The 21- day-old plants were feeded by western flower thrips in an acryl cylinder chamber with air ventilation windows covered with a fine mesh. more...

The Genetic Network Controlling the Arabidopsis Transcriptional Response to Pseudomonas syringae pv. maculicola

(Submitter supplied) Expression profiling of wild-type plants and mutants with defects in key components of the defense signaling network was used to model the Arabidopsis network 24 hours after infection by Pseudomonas syringae pv. maculicola strain Psm ES4326. Results using the Affymetrix ATH1 array revealed that expression levels of most pathogen-responsive genes were affected by mutations in coi1, ein2, npr1, pad4, or sid2. more...

Arabidopsis thaliana gene expression changes upon treatment with green peach aphid saliva

(Submitter supplied) Myzus persicae (green peach aphid) feeding on Arabidopsis thaliana induces a defense response, quantified as reduced aphid progeny production, in infested leaves but not in other parts of the plant. Similarly, infiltration of aphid saliva into Arabidopsis leaves causes only a local increase in aphid resistance. Further characterization of the defense-eliciting salivary components indicates that Arabidopsis recognizes a proteinaceous elicitor with a size between 3 to 10 kD. more...

Host and non-host pathogens elicit different jasmonate/ethylene responses in Arabidopsis

(Submitter supplied) Arabidopsis does not support the growth and asexual reproduction of the barley pathogen, Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei Bgh). A majority of germlings fail to penetrate the epidermal cell wall and papillae. To gain additional insight into this interaction, we determined whether the salicylic acid (SA) or jasmonate (JA)/ethylene (ET) defence pathways played a role in blocking barley powdery mildew infections. more...

Expression data from arabidopsis wild type (Col-0) and JAV1 RNAi plant

(Submitter supplied) JAV1 functions as a negative regulator to control plant defense. Defense-related genes were highly induced in JAV1 RNAi plants compared to wild-type plants in response to wounding or jasmonate treatments. We used microarrays to detail the global programme of gene expression underlying JAV1 effects on expression of genes involving in defense response, lipid metabolism and regulating transcription.

Gene Networks Underlying the Early Regulation of Paraburkholderia Phytofirmans Psjn-induced Systemic Resistance in Arabidopsis

(Submitter supplied) Plant defense responses to biotic stresses are complex biological processes, all governed by sophisticated molecular regulations. Induced systemic resistance (ISR) is one of these defense mechanisms where beneficial bacteria or fungi prime plants to resist pathogen or pest attacks. In ISR the defense arsenal in plants remains dormant and it is only triggered by the infection, allowing a rapid response and a better allocation of plant resources. more...

pmr4 vs. wild-type (May, 2003)

(Submitter supplied) There were two genotypes: (1) Columbia-0, wild-type (C) (2) pmr4-1 mutant (P), callose synthase deficient mutant (Vogel and Somerville (2000) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci., USA 97: 1897). There were two treatments: (1) uninoculated (U) (2) 3 days after inoculation with the powdery mildew pathogen, Erysiphe cichoracearum, race UCSC (I). There were four biological replicates, labeled 1, 2, 3 or 4. Examples of the sample labels are: CU1 = Columbia-0, uninoculated, replicate 1 CI2 = Columbia-0, 3 days after inoculation with powdery mildew, replicate 2 PU3 = pmr4-1, uninoculated, replicate 3 PI4 = pmr4-1, 3 days after inoculation with powdery mildew, replicate 4. more...

Arabidopsis at the stage of Golovinomyces cichoracearum haustorium formation

(Submitter supplied) Here, we sought to describe qualitative and quantitative changes in the global gene expression profiles of susceptible Arabidopsis plants supporting the development of G. cichoracearum haustoria. We analyzed the features of compatibility at this infection stage, and further evaluated the contribution of the SA- and JA/ET-dependent defense signaling pathways in the pathogen-induced responses by comparing responses in infected wild-type, npr1-1, and jar1-1 plants. more...
