The Estrogen Receptor α (ERα) has stage- and cell type-specific roles in the mammary epithelium with distinct requirements for activation function-1 and -2

(Submitter supplied) We provide evidence that luminal responder cells express low level ERα required for cell expansion during ductal growth but growth inhibitor during pregnancy.

Global mammary luminal cells gene expression data from C451A-ERα and WT female mice treated by E2 or E2+Pg during 21 days.

(Submitter supplied) We used microarrays to detail the global programme of gene expression in mammary luminal cells C451A-ERα and WT female mice treated by E2 0.01 MG and E2 0.01 MG +Pg 1.5 MG during 21 days.

An estrogen-dependent model of breast cancer created by transformation of normal human mammary epithelial cells

(Submitter supplied) This study was performed to check that ESR1 and BMI1 are biologically active after lentiviral transduction of primary human mammary epithelial cells (HMECs) with lentiviral vectors expressing ESR1 and BMI1 from the human PGK promoter. ESR1 targets like PGR, PRLR and GREB1, but not TFF1 and XBP1, were induced by estradiol in the ESR1-expressing cells. BMI1 targets like BMI1, NEFL and CCND2 were repressed in the BMI1-expressing cells. more...

Deletion of Cdkn1b in ACI rats perturbs mammary progenitor cell proliferation and differentiation through non-cell-autonomous mechanisms

(Submitter supplied) Emerging data indicate that breast epithelial stem cells and progenitors, particularly those in the luminal epithelial cell lineage, are the cells-of-origin of breast carcinomas, and factors that influence breast cancer risk may alter the number and/or properties of these cells. We hypothesize that a subset of p27+ cells represent hormone-responsive progenitors that are quiescent due to the high activity of TGFβ signaling in these cells. more...
