Keloid fibroblast response to hydrocortisone in vitro

Analysis of keloid fibroblasts (FBs) treated with 1.5uM hydrocortisone (HC). Keloids are benign dermal tumors that form during protracted wound healing. HC at 1.5uM inhibits collagen and elastin synthesis in normal scar FBs but not in keloid FBs. Results provide insight into keloid pathogenesis.

Gene profiling of keloid fibroblasts shows altered expression in multiple fibrosis-associated pathways

(Submitter supplied) Keloids are benign tumors of the dermis that form during a protracted wound healing process. Susceptibility to keloid formation occurs predominantly in people of African and Asian descent. The key alteration(s) responsible for keloid formation has not been identified and there is no satisfactory treatment for this disorder. The altered regulatory mechanism is limited to dermal wound healing, although several diseases characterized by an exaggerated response to injury are prevalent in individuals of African ancestry. more...

Transcriptional signature of wounded keratinocytes reveals selective roles for ERK1/2, P38 and PI3K signalling pathways

(Submitter supplied) Covering denuded dermal surface after injury requires migration, proliferation and differentiation of skin keratinocytes. To clarify the major traits controlling these intermingled biological events, we surveyed the genomic modifications occurring during the course of a scratch closure of cultured human keratinocytes. Using a DNA microarray approach, we report the identification of 161 new markers of epidermal repair. more...
