Diabetic ischemic heart failure patients: non-infarcted left ventricle

Analysis of left ventricle cardiac biopsies taken from the vital, non-infarcted zone of diabetic patients with ischemic heart failure (HF). Increased morbidity and mortality are associated with ischemic HF in diabetic patients. Results provide insight into the underlying pathogenetic mechanisms.
Organism:
Homo sapiens
Type:
Expression profiling by array, transformed count, 3 disease state sets

Transcriptome analysis of diabetic and non diabetic patients affected by post-ischemic heart failure

(Submitter supplied) Increased morbidity and mortality associated with post-ischemic heart failure (HF) in diabetic patients underscore the need for a better understanding of the underlying molecular events. Indeed, effective HF therapy in diabetic patients requires a complex strategy encompassing the development of improved diagnostic and prognostic markers and innovative pharmacological approaches. Whole mRNAs expression was measured in the heart of patients with heart failure (HF) with or without concomitant Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and compared it to control non-failing hearts. more...

MicroRNA-31 promotes adverse cardiac remodeling and dysfunction in ischemic heart disease.

(Submitter supplied) RATIONALE: Myocardial infarction (MI) triggers a dynamic microRNA response with the potential of yielding therapeutic targets. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to identify novel aberrantly expressed cardiac microRNAs post-MI with potential roles in adverse remodeling in a rat model, and to provide post-ischemic therapeutic inhibition of a candidate pathological microRNA in vivo. METHODS AND RESULTS: Following microRNA array profiling in rat hearts 2 and 14days post-MI, we identified a time-dependent up-regulation of miR-31 compared to sham-operated rats. more...

Loss of Cardiac microRNA-Mediated Regulation Leads to Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure.

(Submitter supplied) RATIONALE: Heart failure is a deadly and devastating disease that places immense costs on an aging society. To develop therapies aimed at rescuing the failing heart, it is important to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiomyocyte structure and function. OBJECTIVE: microRNAs are important regulators of gene expression, and we sought to define the global contributions made by microRNAs toward maintaining cardiomyocyte integrity. more...
