Breast cancer metastases from different anatomical sites: fine-needle aspiration biopsies

Analysis of breast cancer (BC) metastases from different anatomical sites collected prior to treatment. The anatomical location of the metastatic lesion is associated with length of survival post-recurrence. Results provide insight into molecular mechanisms underlying BC site-specific metastases.
Organism:
Homo sapiens

Expression data from fine-needle aspiration biopsies of breast cancer metastases from different anatomical sites

(Submitter supplied) Breast cancer molecular subtypes preferentially metastasize to specific organs and the anatomical location of the metastasis is associated with the length of survival post-recurrence. We used microarrays to provide a detailed characterization of breast cancer site-specific metastases with particular focus on identifying genes predictive of breast cancer liver metastatic proprnsity

Subtype-dependent prognostic relevance of an interferon-induced pathway metagene in human node negative breast cancer

(Submitter supplied) We identified and validated the pivotal role for a metagene containing IFN-induced genes in association to higher metastatic potential as a function of the specific molecular subtype

The site of breast cancer metastases dictates their clonal composition and reversible transcriptomic profile

(Submitter supplied) Intratumoral heterogeneity is a driver of breast cancer progression, but the nature of the clonal interactive network involved in this process remains unclear. Here, we optimized the use of optical barcoding to visualize and characterize 31 cancer subclones in vivo. By mapping the clonal composition of thousands of metastases in two clinically relevant sites, the lungs and liver, we found that metastases were highly polyclonal in lungs but not in the liver. more...
