High cholesterol diet and phenobarbital affect cholesterol homeostasis and drug metabolism

(Submitter supplied) High cholesterol diet and xenobiotic treatment induce changes in cholesterol homeostasis and drug metabolism. Mice were either 7 days on high cholesterol diet or were treated with phenobarbital. Liver samples were anayzed using Affymetrix GeneChip MOE430A. Keywords: treatment and diet effects

Diet and phenobarbital affect cholesterol homeostasis and drug metabolism

(Submitter supplied) High cholesterol diet and xenobiotic treatment induce changes in cholesterol homeostasis and drug metabolism. Mice were either 7 days on high cholesterol diet or were treated with phenobarbital. Liver samples were analyzed using Sterolgene v0 cDNA microarrays. Sterolgene microarray is a tool designed to enable focused studies of cholesterol homeostasis and drug metabolism. We show that one week of cholesterol diet down-regulates cholesterol biosynthesis and up-regulates xenobiotic metabolism (Cyp3 family). more...

TNFalpha interferes with adaptation to starvation and activates pro-atherogenic processes

(Submitter supplied) Pathenogenesis of atherosclerosis results from the interactions between disrupted lipid homeostasis and immune response, but the molecular bridges between the major players are still a matter of controversy. We performed a systemic study of the imflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha), a well established anorexia agent, in the livers of the mice exposed to 20h-cytokine/starvation. more...

Gene expression profiles of starved mice and mice treat with TNF alpha

(Submitter supplied) Pathogenesis of atherosclerosis results from the interactions between disrupted lipid homeostasis and immune response but the molecular bridges between the major players are still a matter of controversy. We investigated the systemic effect of inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), a well established anorexia agent, in livers of mice exposed to 24h-cytokine/starvation. 10% of genes of the Agilent 10kb cDNA array is detected above level of detection in the mouse liver. more...

Liver response to a high cholesterol diet and phenobarbital

Analysis of livers from animals treated with phenobarbital or fed a high cholesterol diet for 7 days. Results provide insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of these exogenous sources on cholesterol homeostasis and drug metabolism.
