Transcriptomic evolution across bilaterian tissues

(Submitter supplied) We investigate tissue transcriptomic evolution across bilaterian animals by analyzing RNA-seq data from eight different tissues across twenty species.

Cell types and molecular architecture of the Octopus bimaculoides visual system

(Submitter supplied) Cephalopods have a remarkable visual system, with a camera-type eye, high acuity vision, and a wide range of sophisticated visual behaviors. However, the cephalopod brain is organized dramatically differently from that of vertebrates, as well as other invertebrates, and little is known regarding the cell types and molecular determinants of their visual system organization beyond neuroanatomical descriptions. more...

Cephalopod Neurogenomics

(Submitter supplied) Transcriptome profiling of Octopus nervous systems and associated structures provides insights into the molecular organization of neuronal complexity and behavioral flexibility. RNA-seq also highlights molecular diversity in cell signaling pathways.

Evolution of CpH methylation in vertebrate brains

(Submitter supplied) The brain requires complex mechanisms of genome regulation to encode and store behavioural information. In mammals, DNA methylation deposited at non-CG dinucleotides characterises brain epigenomes. However, it is unclear to what extent this non-canonical form of DNA methylation is evolutionarily conserved. To test this we profile brain cytosine methylation across the major vertebrate lineages, amphioxus, honeybee and octopus, finding that non-CG methylation in adult brain methylomes is restricted to vertebrates. more...
