mercuric resistance transcriptional repressor MerD

This HMM represents a transcriptional repressor protein of the MerR family (PF00376) whose expression is regulated by the mercury-sensitive transcriptional activator, MerR. MerD has been shown to bind the same mer operator site as MerR and repress the transcription of the mer operon. It is often referred to as a co-regulator.

Gene:
merD
GO Terms:
Molecular Function:
DNA binding (GO:0003677)
Biological Process:
negative regulation of DNA-templated transcription (GO:0045892)
Biological Process:
response to mercury ion (GO:0046689)
Date:
2024-05-30
Family Accession:
TIGR02054.1
Method:

6.

mercury resistance co-regulator MerD

MerD does not bind DNA, despite its homology to MerR, but instead acts as a co-regulator of mercury resistance.
