Study of microbial species in extracellular vesicles of sclerosis multiple patients

(Submitter supplied) Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are released by most cell types and are implicated in several biological and pathological processes, including multiple sclerosis (MS). In this study we performed RNA sequencing to analyze the diversity of microorganisms by assignment of reads using different taxa profilers. To diminish the risk of false positive biases derived from sample handling, we performed a similar analysis on EVs derived from known cultured bacterial species, as well as artificially-generated samples. more...

Transcriptional and functional analysis of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis exposure to tetracycline

(Submitter supplied) Commercial probiotic bacteria must be tested for acquired antibiotic resistance elements to avoid potential transfer to pathogens. The European Food Safety Authority recommends testing resistance using microdilution culture techniques previously used to establish inhibitory thresholds for the Bifidobacterium genus. Many Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis strains exhibit increased resistance to tetracycline, historically attributed to the ribosomal protection gene tet(W). more...

Expression data from Bifidobacterium longum strains exposed to hydrogen peroxide stress

(Submitter supplied) Stress survival tactics in bacteria utalize the up- and down-regulation of stress response genes. In bacterial that lack classical stress response genes for oxidative stress, other cellular systems can be used for cell survival. We used custom microarrays to study the regulation of genes in Bifidobacterium longum strains to oxidative stress to elucidate novel stress response mechanisms.

Genes involved in synthesis of lipoteichoic acids are induced when Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BB12 is incubated with Human Enterocyte-Like Caco-2 Cells

(Submitter supplied) Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BB12 is a widely used probiotic bacterium. However the molecular mechanism by which this bacterium confers positive health effects to the host is largely unknown. The importance of lipoteichoic acids (LTA) in the cross-talk between the bacteria and human enterocyte-like Caco-2 cells was investigated in the present study. A microarray-based analysis of gene expression revealed induction of genes encoding enzymes involved in the synthesis of lipoteichoic acids of BB12. more...

(Submitter supplied) DNA oligos were purchased from Bioneer Corporation at 50nmol synthesis scale with BioRP purification and in lyophilized state (Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, South Korea). Oligos were dissolved at 10uM in 50% DMSO and printed in 4 replicates on UltraGAPS slides (Corning B.V., Schiphol-Rijk, The Netherlands) using a Genpak ARRAY 21 arrayer (Genetix Ltd., Hampshire, United Kingdom) with 16 SMP3 pins, (TeleChem International Inc., Sunnyvale, CA) giving a spot diameter of 100-120mm. more...
