Salmonella type III secretion effector SteA effect on epithelial cells

Analysis of HeLa epithelial cells stably-transfected with a SteA-3xFLAG fusion construct. Salmonella effector SteA is a substrate for both type III secretion systems which are essential for virulence. Results provide insight into the role of SteA during infections.

Global impact of Salmonella type III secretion effector SteA on host cells

(Submitter supplied) Salmonella enterica is a Gram-negative bacterium that causes gastroenteritis, bacteremia and typhoid fever in several animal species including humans. Its virulence is greatly dependent on two type III secretion systems (T3SSs), encoded in pathogenicity islands 1 (SPI1) and 2 (SPI2), respectively. These systems translocate proteins called effectors into eukaryotic host cell. Effectors interfere with certain host signal transduction pathways to allow the internalization of pathogens and their survival and proliferation inside vacuoles. more...

Expression data from RAW264.7 cells infected with wild-type vs srfJ mutant Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium

(Submitter supplied) SrfJ is an effector of the type III secretion systems of the Gram-negative intracellular pathogen Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. To study the effects of this effector on global gene expression in host cells, we have infected murine RAW264.7 macrophages with two strains of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. The comparison between cells infected with the wild-type strain and cells infected with a srfJ mutant revealed a number of genes that are differentially expressed when SrfJ is present.

Expression data from HeLa cells transfected with plasmid expressing Salmonella effector SrfJ or HeLa cells transfected with the empty vector

(Submitter supplied) SrfJ is an effector of the type III secretion systems of the Gram-negative intracellular pathogen Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. To study the effects of this effector on global gene expression in host cells, we have expressed SrfJ on human HeLa cells through transient transfection. The comparison with HeLa cells transfected with a plasmid not expressing SrfJ, revealed a number of genes that are differentially expressed when SrfJ is present.

Infection of rat epithelial cells with a Salmonella typhimurium strain expressing Rck, PagN and the T3SS1 system (14028Sur) and two Salmonella typhimurium strains invalidated for entry factors (i.e. D(rck, pagN) and DinvASur)

(Submitter supplied) The aim of this work was to study the cellular gene expression profiles associated with the entry mechanism of Salmonella typhimurium. Whatever the bacterial strain used for infection, the expression of numerous genes associated with the extracellular matrix was modified.
