Total RNA was isolated from cell pellets using mirVana kit (Ambion/Life Technologies) according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Total RNA was eluted in 100 µl H2O, concentration measured on NanoDrop ND-1000.

For the expression arrays Cy-3-labeled cRNA was hybridized according to the manual One-Color Microarray-Based Gene Expression Analysis, Low Input Quick Amp Labeling (version 6.5, May 2010) from Agilent Technologies.

The slides were scanned immediately after washing on the Agilent Microarray Scanner G2565C using protocol GE1_107_Sep09 for the expression microarrays and protocol.

| Data processing |
The scanned images were analyzed using Feature Extraction Software 10.7.3.1 (Agilent Technologies) using default parameters. The expression profiles were backgroundcorrected and quantile normalized for mRNA. Filtering of controls, unannotated genes and low expressed probes was done.
